Who hasn’t bought a cologne that they thought smell great, only to find that the women in their life didn’t really care for it? No one likes spending money on things that don’t get the result you’re looking for.
While it would be easy and make life simple for everyone, it just doesn’t work that way. Everyone has their own taste and there is not just one fragrance for everyone. Rather than Wouldn’t it be great to know what others are thinking before you buy?
That’s why we took a sample poll to get an idea of what men’s cologne women love. The result is this table that assimilates the data we collected into one place. This will give you a quick idea if the cologne you are looking at is one favored by women.

So, What are women’s favorite men’s colognes?
Well, as you can see just with a small sampling we were able to extract 25 colognes that were on the top of these women’s minds. This this list is a start, but is far from exhaustive. For example one my aunt’s favorite colognes, Christian Dior’s Sauvage Eau de Toilette didn’t make the list. My aunt loves this scent with its top notes of Sichuan pepper and Calabrian bergamot, but Gabby wasn’t in our survey.
Price – What we used for a guideline
It should be noted that prices change and there are always sales so this chart we used is just that a guideline there is no promise this is the price of the cologne on the specific day you check it.

- $$ – Between $25 and $50 for 3 ounces of cologne
- $$$ – Between $50 and $75 for about 3 ounces of cologne
- $$$$ – Between $75 and $100 for about 3 ounces of cologne

Approval Rating – How strongly a woman said she was attracted
This particular rating shows the percentage of women that wants their boyfriend/husband/lover(s) to wear it. The higher the percentage, the more women find that particular cologne attractive. While this is a subjective designation that doesn’t break down the top notes, heart notes, and base notes; it does give you some insight as to what these women like from an impressionist point of view.
Popularity – What did we mean by this designation?
This shows how many men are currently wearing this type of cologne. 1 = What is this stuff? to 5 = Everyone wears it. This special category will help you find an Eau de Parfum or Eau de Toilette that is currently being worn by men everywhere and a cologne that guys are not wearing very often. Very helpful if you’re looking for a signature scent that not many people wear (<– HUGE tip).
What cologne will get you laid?
Well, we’re not going going to say any specific cologne will get you laid based on what they smell like, however there are pheromonic fragrances out there that claim there is some science behind it. While we aren’t going to argue with science, our more practical answer is that if you are where a cologne, Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum that you feel is a women’s favorite clone, your confidence will be up and a confident man always has better chances in this department!
What is the most attractive smelling cologne?
We’ve covered scent profiles and strengths of the different types of mens fragrances before but we thought we would include them here as a reminder.
In general, the more the aromatic compounds, the stronger the scent. So if you’re looking for a bold fragrance that will last a long time, it might be a great idea to select an Eau de Parfum. If you’re looking for something a little less likely to assault the senses, an Eau de Cologne will be a better choice for you. For me personally, the Eau de Toilette for everyday wear strikes a balance between the two. Much like goldilocks tried 3 of everything until she found the one that is “Just Right” you will likely need to do the same with men’s fragrance products to find your style.

Mens Fragrances that Women Love
So what does all this mean? You came here looking for for an answer to the question: What is it that women look for in a men’s cologne? Did they like a masculine scent best? Was it the Giorgio Armani brand or Dolce Gabbana brand? A long lasting top note? After all inquiring minds want to know….
Sadly, there is no singular answer to the question, however there was one theme all of the 90% or higher approval rated colognes. All of these choices (with the notable exception of Usher) had a top note with some sort of citrus, heart notes of spice, and a base note with a woody aroma. So here is a break down of some of these fragrances to help you find your own unique brand that carries this common them.
Common Citrus Fragrances
Bergamot: More of a floral and tart smelling fragrance than a typical orange has
Orange: A sweet, stimulating fragrance
Grapefruit: elegant aroma, happy smell , uplifting, more tangy than orange
Lemon: has a way of covering bad odors, bright smell
Common Spicy Fragrances
Pink Pepper: Comes from the Peruvian pepper tree, not actually a pepper. Fragrant hints of juniper.
Black Pepper: musty with a mild pungent bite
Cinnamon: Cozy, warm, comforting
Coriander: Hint of citrus, floral, and spicy
Zesty ginger: its similar to citrus but has a little bit of a woody fragrance

While this article is far from scientific, we think you have a little better insight into what types of fragrances women like on their man. Also in looking at the choices by women, they weren’t always the best selling cologne. Finding that one specific fragrance than women love to rule them all is elusive at best, we can get collect the fragrance overtones in the products they favored, then use that to guide our fragrance choice.
